Los Angeles, California - The David Bohnett Foundation today announced the recipients of their second round of grants for 2000.  The awards further the foundation's mission to provide resources for organizations pursuing societal change and social justice.

"Each of these organizations has demonstrated a commitment to bettering the lives of the people they serve," said David Bohnett. "Whether they seek to save our children from gun violence, educate our young people about the importance of voting, lend compassionate care for our animal friends or provide much-needed services to gay and lesbian youth, they have all made their mark in improving us as a society."

Entrepreneur David Bohnett, the founder of GeoCities, which he started in 1994, and soon grew to become the largest community on the Internet, formed the David Bohnett Foundation in 1999. The foundation's current endowment is approximately $40 million dollars, and expects to make grants totaling nearly $2 million dollars worth of grants this year.

AIDS Service Center $25,000 to assist in integration of Internet access into the organization's day-to-day operations. www.aidssc.org

Campus Alliance to End Gun Violence $10,000 to establish a program of college anti-gun violence chapters and to fund the David Bohnett Summer Intern Program. www.csgv.org

Common Sense About Kids and Guns $50,000 over two years to promote common sense safety measures to reduce gun deaths and injuries to children. www.kidsandguns.org

Friends of Washoe $25,000 to support their program "Chimpanzee Dialects, Conservation and Care: A Unique Form of Social Activism. www.cwu.edu/~cwuchci

HIV & AIDS Legal Services $10,000 for general operating support for this legal services consortium. www.apla.org

Human Rights Campaign $100,000 over 2 years in support of voter registration and mobilization activities. www.hrc.org

KCRW-FM $50,000 for general operating funds to satisfy capital and programmatic needs. www.kcrw.org

Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund $25,000 for general operating expenses www.lambdalegal.org

Liberty Hill Foundation $25,000 to support their community based grants addressing the social and economic problems of Los Angeles and Southern California. www.libertyhill.org

National Union of Jewish LGBT Students $1,000 for generating operating support to provide resources for LGBT Jewish students.

New York Lesbian and Gay Community Center $150,000 over two years for construction and installation of a new, state-of-the art David Bohnett CyberCenter in the newly renovated New York Lesbian and Gay Community Center www.gaycenter.org

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) $25,000 in support of their newly developed "Families of Color Network" initiative www.pflag.org

Pets Are Wonderful Support / Los Angeles $10,000 for general operating expenses for a group dedicated to keeping people living with HIV/AIDS and their pets together. www.pawsla.org

Q Spirit $5,000 for organizational development and capacity building for this group, which provides resources for spiritual-based services for the gay community www.qspirit.org

Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) $1,000 for board and staff development and training.

Rock The Vote $50,000 for "Take Pride, Rock The Vote" a print and web based media campaign designed to mobilize gay and lesbian youth during Campaign 2000. www.rockthevote.org

Servicemembers Legal Defense Fund $25,000 for general operating support for this national legal organization fighting the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. www.sldn.org
