The eye-catching two-story gray building with the big windows along 9 Mile Road in downtown Ferndale is now one of the largest gay and lesbian community centers in the country.
“It's something to be proud of,” said Kathleen LaTosch, communications director for the community center, Affirmations.
While the $5.3-million Affirmations center has been open since April, the official grand opening is June 3, which coincides with the Motor City Pride festival in Ferndale, an event for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
