The Center Long Beach To Unveil David Bohnett CyberCenter
June 8, 2006 — Long Beach, California - The Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Center will host a grand opening celebration for its new David Bohnett CyberCenter on Thursday, July 20, 2006 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The new CyberCenter has been made possible through a Bohnett Foundation Grant of $29,000.
The Center Long Beach's new David Bohnett CyberCenter will offer visitors access to 8 state-of-the-art IBM computers with broadband Internet access and a full-range of business and creative software.
"Thanks to the generosity of David Bohnett and his foundation, our youth program will now offer resume writing classes, help youth apply to college and search for scholarships," said Community Outreach Coordinator for The Center Long Beach Serena Turley. "Plus, it will serve as a resource hub for studying or for working on their homework."
"We are very grateful for the David Bohnett Foundation grant as it will allow The Center Long Beach to provide much needed computer literacy service programs to the LGBT community and to the youth of our MYTE Program," said Anna Rubin, contract administrator for The Center Long Beach.
"All of us at The Center have been thrilled about the possibilities open to the community with the completion of the new Bohnett CyberCenter. A variety of classes will be offered to the community that focus on business development; student scholarships, applications and resumes; and computer skill advancement. The community will also be given periods of time where they can access the computers for personal use," said, Chair of the Board of Directors for The Center Long Beach Kim Woods.
