CyberCenters
Computer access at Gay & Lesbian centers.
The David Bohnett CyberCenters, located in 30 cities throughout the U.S., offer free access to the Internet and computer classes for the traditionally underserved LGBT community. The CyberCenters also serve as a hub for educational opportunities for seniors and youth. The first CyberCenter was opened in 1998 at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center. Its mission of providing software training, classes and Internet access inside a comfortable, informal environment proved so successful that it served as a blueprint for all 30 CyberCenters around the nation. In 2004, the David Bohnett Foundation invested more than $350,000 to "refresh" all 18 existing CyberCenters with state-of-the-art IBM technology, including the latest in software and hardware design. Most CyberCenters are located inside an LGBT community center that serves the local area where they are located.
