Handgun Control
The reduction and elimination of the manufacture and sale of handguns in the US.
The David Bohnett Foundation supports and encourages groups that promote the goals of reduction and elimination of the manufacture and sale of handguns in the U.S. The statistics about gun use and availability are alarming: every eight seconds, a new firearm is made in America (ATF); 67% of the 16,204 murders in 2002 were committed with firearms (FBI); from 1972-1997, more than 59 million handguns were manufactured in the U.S. (industry statistics); every hour in America, four people are killed by firearms (Centers for Disease Control); a gun in your home makes it three times more likely that you or someone you care about will be murdered by a family member or intimate partner (New England Journal of Medicine.) Groups and institutions that educate the public or seek to make public policy on the local, state or national level for gun control and elimination are encouraged to seek funding.
