John Kerr

John Eugene Kerr is a current Master of Urban and Regional Planning candidate with an area of concentration in Transportation Planning and Policy. Pursuing a certificate in Urban Design and Mobility, his studies focus on the intersection of public transportation and public space, and how to make non-automotive forms of travel more accessible, vibrant and comfortable for everyday people. John has lived in Los Angeles car-free for the last 15 years and brings the perspective from his favorite seat on the bus to transportation policy.

Prior to UCLA, John had a successful career in the entertainment industry, including many years at NBCUniversal where he wore many hats, from digital operations to strategy. However, his proudest accomplishments were in advocacy for smarter transit and safer cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. Working with his neighbors as part of the Beautiful Boulevard coalition, John ensured Metro’s transformative North Hollywood to Pasadena BRT project would not bypass his community, and with Streets for All, advocated for the passage of AB 413, mandating “daylighting” at all California intersections.

John is thrilled to be a Bohnett Fellow in the Mayor’s Office of Major Events and eager to work towards making these legendary events a positive and lasting legacy for the city he loves.
