A proud Angeleno, Peyton Johnson is a Master in Social Welfare candidate at the University of California Los Angeles with a concentration in social and economic justice. She is passionate about building a community of care through forward-facing policy, social programming, and equitable public resources.
While an undergraduate at Brown University, Peyton bolstered her commitment to advancing equity across communities serving as a Site Leader for a student-led organization, Sexual Health Advocacy through Peer Education (SHAPE). Through SHAPE and participation in Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s Generation Action program, Peyton worked to create and facilitate comprehensive, inclusive, and language-accessible sex-ed for local Providence high schoolers and support progressive legislation in Rhode Island through community mobilization. Upon returning to her hometown of Los Angeles, Peyton continued advocating for young learners through individual behavioral intervention support. In her first-year MSW practicum, Peyton works as a Domestic Abuse Advocate with LAPD’s Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART), responding to domestic violence emergency calls and conducting outreach to best support survivors. Supporting her clients–who are often multi-level system impacted–has crystallized her understanding of just how powerful a force legislation and program implementation can exert on individual lives, solidifying her passion for promoting efficient infrastructure and accessible resources across all Angeleno communities.
As our city prepares to host major international events, Peyton is eager to leverage her policy knowledge and community engagement experiences with the Office of Major Events in order to deliver safe, successful, and fiscally responsible opportunities that benefit her Los Angeles community.
