Shaiylah Jackson

Shaiylah Jackson is a dual MSW/MPP candidate at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs specializing in Social and Economic Justice. Currently, Shaiylah is the Administrative/Social Media Coordinator for the Luskin Black Caucus, a first-year student representative for the Luskin ADEI Committee, a member of the Black Feminism Initiative, and is a Torchbearer Fellow with Go For Broke National Education Center. She is passionate about mental health accessibility and equity, decreasing poverty and homelessness, expanding access to public benefits, and contributing to the development and implementation of affordable housing.

Shaiylah received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. During this time, Shaiylah interned with Horizon Healthcare Partners and assisted on the RI Rapha Project, a healing circle for women of color. Combined with her time at Riverside Community Care as a Care Coordinator, Shaiylah solidified her passion in developing, implementing, and creating resources and programming for the underrepresented populations in her community. Being new to California, Shaiylah spends time getting connected and engaged with leaders in the Los Angeles community including Dr. Ryan Smith of St. Joseph Center who provides her mentorship.

As a proud first-generation woman of color, Shaiylah is thrilled to be working on the Workforce Development Board as a David Bohnett Fellow for the 2026-2027 year, supporting their visions for Angelenos. It is her mission to advocate for those who feel unheard and unseen, striving to bridge the gaps between communities and their leaders.
