UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs: Alberto Vargas

Alberto Vargas

Alberto Vargas is a current Master of Public Policy candidate at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs, with a focus in technology policy and economic development. He has served as a Policy Fellow at UCLA’s Latino Politics and Policy Institute (LPPI), where he co-authored a brief on the state of Latino Well-Being in Fresno County and participated in LPPI’s advocacy work with the California State Legislature.

Prior to starting at UCLA, Alberto worked as a Field Representative for California State Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel in the San Fernando Valley. In this role, he managed a diverse policy portfolio including Latino, healthcare and labor issues. Alberto also worked for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) as a Technology Policy and Program Coordinator where he managed the tech policy and advocacy efforts to execute small business programming and digital literacy across LULAC membership nationwide.

Alberto is a native of the San Fernando Valley and proud son of immigrant parents from Mexico. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Studies from the University of California, Irvine. During his free time, he loves to spend time playing basketball and training horses with his dad.

Alberto will be placed in the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs and is looking forward to learning more in detail about the work our municipal government does. He is looking forward to continuing to learn and grow as a young professional and see how the Mayor’s Office and team is shaping the future of Los Angeles.
