Skylar Lenox is a Master’s student in Social Welfare, focusing on the impacts of social policy and socioenvironmental conditions on traditionally marginalized populations in the United States. Skylar has been passionate about social justice as long as she can remember, spurring her to pursue a BA in Community Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Following graduation, she worked at several community based organizations that focused on empowering specific populations facing inequalities, including people living in poverty and those with cognitive disabilities.
After seven years of working in the community, Skylar decided to return to academia to further her life’s work of supporting others in creating sustainable change. Skylar is driven by the belief that government and communities must support and encourage people who have been traditionally subjugated to use their voice to advocate for systemic change.
Skylar could not be more honored to be joining the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office as a Bohnett Fellow this summer. She will be working in the Department of External Affairs, focusing on civic engagement. In the coming year, she is looking forward to learning from such a dynamic and vital department and to help contribute to raising the participation in the civic process.
