Poll: California voters oppose gay marriage ban

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A new poll has found that more California voters say they oppose a ballot initiative to ban same-sex marriage in the state's constitution than would support it.

A survey released today by the Field Poll says that 51% of likely voters say they will vote against Proposition 8 this fall, while 42% say they would vote for it.

The Field Poll of 672 likely California voters was conducted during the week of July 8-14. It had a sampling error of plus or minus 3.9%age points.
